Apple Home Architecture Upgrade: A New Era for HomeKit
A Fresh Start for Apple Home
With iOS 16.2, Apple rolled out a completely redesigned Home architecture. This was not just a visual refresh — it was a fundamental rebuild of the underlying infrastructure that powers HomeKit.
The new architecture promises faster and more reliable device communication, improved responsiveness, and a more robust foundation for future features. For KNX homeowners using Thinka, this translates to a noticeably snappier experience when controlling your home.
What Changed?
Apple rebuilt the Home app from the ground up with several key improvements:
- Faster device communication — Commands reach your devices more quickly, reducing the lag between tapping a button and seeing the result
- Improved reliability — The new architecture handles network interruptions more gracefully, with better recovery when devices temporarily go offline
- New categories and tile designs — The redesigned interface groups devices by category (lights, climate, security, etc.) making it easier to find and control what you need
- Multi-camera view — View up to four camera feeds simultaneously on your iPhone or iPad
Thinka and the New Home Architecture
We have thoroughly tested Thinka with the new Home architecture and are pleased to report full compatibility. Your KNX devices will appear with the new tile designs, and you will benefit from the improved communication speed and reliability.
If you have not upgraded yet, we recommend updating to the latest iOS and migrating to the new Home architecture. The process is straightforward and can be done directly from the Home app settings.
