Thinka for KNX — FAQ

First of all make sure your lamp is configured properly in Thinka (see KNX) as a switch or lightbulb. The name should be easily pronounceable and unique, such as “floor light”. Then you can just say: “Alexa, turn on the floor light”.

First of all make sure your lamp is configured properly in Thinka (see KNX) as a lightbulb. Then you can just say: “Alexa, set the floor light to 50 percent”, “Alexa, decrease the floor light by 25 percent” or “Alexa, increase the floor light by 25 percent”.

No, you can not. Because HomeKit requires different hardware we offer an upgrade so that you can exchange your Thinka for Echo for a Thinka that supports HomeKit, Echo and Google Home.

Thinka only supports English (US, UK, AU, CA, IN), German, French, Italian, Spanish and Brazilian (Portuguese). If you are in a country which primary language is not included in this list, you need to switch your Alexa settings to use one of these languages to use the Thinka skill.

For details see also the Alexa developer information

When using WindowCoverings in Alexa, the App shows just information, no controls (see below left). This is a serious limitation, since you can not use it to open or close the curtain. And you can not use it in an automation.

That's why we decided to show it a Switch (see below right). This would normally mean you would use turn on/off.

But we made it so that you can still say:

  • Alexa, open the curtain
  • Alexa, close the curtain
  • Alexa, set the curtain to 35%
  • Alexa, raise the curtain
  • Alexa, lower the curtain

First of all make sure your curtain is configured properly in Thinka (see KNX) as a window covering. Now just say: "Alexa, close the blinds", "Alexa, turn off the blinds" or "Alexa, open the blinds". You can also open the blinds partly . Then you can just say: “Alexa, set the curtain to 30 percent”. Note that 100% is fully open (most light).

On your Thinka go to the Settings -> Amazon Alexa and enable Alexa.

First click the enable button below and wait until the indicator above turns green and shows “enabled”.

This means Thinka has successfully established a secure connection to Amazon via the Thinka Cloud.

You do not need an Amazon Echo unless you want to use voice control.
Thinka devices can also be controlled directly from the Alexa app or through Alexa Routines without an Echo device.

Next, click the “PAIR” button and copy the generated token.

Open Alexa app. Then Go to Settings -> Skills& Games -> Search Thinka in the skills -> Click ENABLE TO USE button

The page shown in the image below will appear. Enter the pairing token you received from the Thinka UI and click ALLOW button.

Once the skill is linked using the token, you will see the accessories in the app.
