In order to find your Thinka on your local network, use your browser to go to https://setup.thinka.eu and fill in the serial number of your Thinka. We will then redirect you to your Thinka on your local network. If your Thinka is protected by a password, provide it, and you will be directed to the Settings page, where you can manage your Thinka via this web interface.
It may be handy to bookmark the web interface of your Thinka, so you do not need to go to the setup.thinka.eu site again.
The serial number of your Thinka consists of six characters, such as XD4DS3. It is printed on the back of your Thinka next to the S/N symbol.
It can also be found via the web interface under Settings -> Thinka
Alternatively you can find it with the Thinka Companion app
Absolutely, Thinka is meant for visualisation using either HomeKit on an iPad, iPhone, Apple TV or AppleWatch. Or the Amazon or Google apps.Voice control is supported of course. Just use what you prefer.
For Remote access there are different options, see
- for Thinka support
- for System Integrator Web support
- for HomeKit
- via VPN (e.g. for ETS) - PRO version only
Go to https://setup.thinka.eu/ and fill in the serial number (S/N) of your Thinka. We will redirect you to last known IP address on your LAN.
Thinka uses DHCP to obtain an IP address from your network. So there is no need for any configuration.
If you want to use a static address, you can use your router to do so.
No, Thinka uses DHCP to obtain an IP address from your LAN automatically. Thinka does not need to have internet access.
There are no incoming ports that need to be opened. So you would not need to open your firewall or router. Thinka will only use outgoing access to the Internet for use with:
A Window Covering is the general name HomeKit uses for (Venetian) Blinds, Shades and Curtains.
Yes, we do, you can control up and down as well as the angle of the blinds.
We have a beta channel for evaluation of new and experimental features. Please contact us via support@thinka.eu and we will further review your request (please mention your serial number (Z-Wave) or serial number (KNX)).
Once accepted you can put your Thinka on the beta channel yourself. Go to your Thinka's web interface and go to the Update Thinka page in the menu.
If you don't see the beta channel yet, please restart your Thinka first to get the updates.
Now you can switch your Thinka from stable to beta.
Here are images and descriptions that explains the steps for setup
First enable google Home
The click "Pair" button to able to take a token for authorization
On your smart phone, start the Google Home app, create a Home, and click on add. Next choose "Set up device" and choose "Works with Google". Find "Thinka" in the list of devices and select it. Then use the generated token to pair with Google Home. You can download Google home app from here for Android and from here for IOS. And
You can make automations in HomeKit or triggers in Alexa. For HomeKit you need to configure a HomeKit hub.
No, Thinka VPN connections are temporary, and limited to 7 days. This is to protect the home owner's network. We think that 7 days is enough to install and configure a Thinka initially and that any additional maintenance should be done with the home owner's consent, meaning asking permission.
If you (as a system integrator) need to manage a unattended/remote Thinka, please drop us an email (support@thinka.eu) with a request to extend this period
You can use `replace failed node` feature on Thinka when your Z-Wave device is broken. You can continue using your new device on Apple Home without doing anything after replacing. Here are the steps to replace broken device.
The device seems unresponsive
Click the 'Replace failed device' button.
Click the `Start` button to be able to start inclusion process again
Now turn the new device into inclusion mode
After a while the device was replaced successfully. Now you can set the name and the room again if necessary
As you see the warning has been gone and the device can be controlled successfully
You see that before and after replacing node. In the first picture the device seems unresponsive because it is broken. And also scene included that device is not working anymore. In the second photo we replace the device with the new one and the unresponsive device seems ok and working properly, both device and the scene.
First go to "Settings" page then go to "Alexa" tab. Click the enable button below and wait until the indicator above goes green and says "enabled". Now Thinka has setup a connection to Amazon via the secured Thinka cloud you can click the "pair" button and copy the generated token. Next find the Thinka skill on the Alexa site. We advise to use the web page instead of the app. That way you can easily paste the pairing token that your Thinka generated. When this is done you can add your Thinka devices via "DISCOVER DEVICES". Here are the images and descriptions that it can help you;
First enable Alexa
Then click "Pair" button.
Now you have pairing token. Use this token to enable the Thinka for KNX Smart Home Skill in your Alexa App. After that your device(s) will be seen on Amazon Alexa.
The Thinka Companion app is the app that you use to configure HomeKit on your phone. It uses the devices and rooms on your Thinka to create your Home in HomeKit and to keep it in sync. Otherwise you would have to configure all devices one-by-one and put them in their rooms with Apple's Home App.
Furthermore the companion app can help you find your Thinka on the network and see its status. It can also help you enable remote access for support.
You can get the Thinka Companion App from the Appstore.
The Home App you will use to control your Home, so that's what you'll use probably daily. The Home App is preinstalled on your iPhone or iPad.
We support the following regions:
Choosing a different region than the one provided by Thinka by default is subject to RF legislation, see https://www.silabs.com/wireless/z-wave/global-regions for more information on choosing the right channel and the legal standard that applies. The last column (SW. Lib.) in the table on that webpage corresponds to the regions above.
You should set the correct frequency in the settings menu. Please see here
The PRO functionality is a software only feature. Upon shipment you will receive a mail with instructions on how to activate the Thinka PRO functionality. The email contains a link.
It will redirect you to your order history on your account at https://shop.thinka.eu/resellers/orders/history (resellers) or https://shop.thinka.eu/customer_accounts/orders/history (customers). Both links (Reseller and Customer) are reachable from the shop.
The new features (IP Gateway and VPN Server) will become available the next day or after restart.

Thinka for Z-Wave can be used in the United States.
To operate correctly in the US, the Thinka Z-Wave controller must run on the U.S. Z-Wave frequency (908.4 MHz). If your Thinka is currently set to another region, you will need to change the Z-Wave frequency before using it in the US.
You can find detailed instructions on how to change the region/frequency here After selecting the correct region, Thinka will communicate with all compatible US Z-Wave devices according to local regulations.
Connecting to Thinka over the Matter protocol is now available on request on the Beta channel. This is particularly useful for Google Home and Amazon Alexa to operate independently from the cloud. For Apple Home we recommend to use Apple HomeKit, as also using Matter can lead to device duplication.
To participate in the beta, please first contact support.
This guide will explain how you can setup and use the Matter integration of Thinka.
Tap to Matter-enabled device option
QR Code
Scan the QR Code on Thinka UI.
Manual pairing code
Enter the pairing code from either the Thinka UI or the app that has already been commissioned (See the last section).
Follow these steps if the Thinka Matter Hub has already been commissioned by another Matter controller (such as Apple Home, SmartThings, Alexa, or another Matter app). In this case, you will need to share the Matter setup code from the first app to add it to Google Home.
Below show the procedure using Apple Home, but the same approach applies to other Matter controllers
To add the devices you’ve already set up in Apple Home to Google Home, open the Apple Home app and go to Home Settings → Home Hubs & Bridges → Matter Accessory, then tap Turn on Pairing Mode and then copy the code.
For the remaining steps, you can continue from Manual Pairing Code section above
Thinka for Z-Wave is a Z-Wave certified hub, which means it supports all Z-Wave certified devices in principle.
To ensure compatibility, the device you add must also be Z-Wave certified.
If your device is certified but still not working correctly, please check whether it is running the latest firmware version.
If the device is up to date and the issue persists, feel free to contact the Thinka support team at support@thinka.eu.
